Sometimes it is OK to not be OK. That is the central theme in the work of 2018 Kresge Arts in Detroit Fellow and screenwriter/filmmaker Toni Cunningham. As an adopted, mixed-race woman, finding identity has always been important to her.

After graduating from Wayne State University with a degree in Media Arts and Studies and spending years as a script analyst for BlueCat Screenplay Competition, Goldcrest Films and The Writers Lab, she honed her own storytelling skills.

She has been a semi-finalist in the Page International Screenplay Awards and was invited to apply for a Knight Fellowship at Sundance. She is currently shopping her feature film screenplay Little Big Sister and is in post production on a short titled Good Grief.
